Hi, I’m Thad Schlaud, Director of Client Experience here at Gainplan and we’re going to be talking about preparing for a first meeting with a financial advisor.
So you’ve got your first meeting setup. Congratulations. You know, you’re taking an essential step towards financial confidence and clarity. Here’s how to make the most of this first meeting. You do want to start with clarity. Consider what motivated you to reach out to an advisor in the first place. Having a clear objective is going to help guide that conversation.
First, you are going to want to conduct a FINRA background check. Using the broker check tool on FINRA’s website is going to reveal an advisor’s background, their experience, and most importantly, if there have been any disciplinary actions action them or their Firm.
Number two, you want to look at their digital footprint. Take time to explore their website, read through articles that they’ve written, watch any videos that they’ve produced.
Establish some criteria for yourself or your family and reflect on the qualities that matter most to you in knowing a financial advisor. Knowing that criteria will help you evaluate whether or not the advisor is the right fit for your financial needs.
Prepare some questions in advance. Having that list of questions will help you uncover the advisors’ approach and suitability for your specific needs. Questions you could ask are; What type of terms of communication and collaboration work best with you, how many clients do you serve and how personalized are your services?
By embracing these steps, you’re not only preparing for the meeting, but also setting the foundation for a long-term partnership that aligns with your financial aspirations and personal values.
We’d love to connect with you and get you on the right path. Contact us so we can help get you started.
